Musiland Driver 2.X: Release Version

(Update Oct 26, 2011). Another update: MlCyMon_2.1.0.0_build20111026.exe in the main driver folder.

Slight changes in the UI (notice “System Volume”, and other small details)

According to this post:

  1. New technology and software algorithms to improve the accuracy of the signal to improve sound quality
  2. Improved compatibility with 64-bit systems, AMD chipset, systems with 4GB or less of memory, WDM and ASIO
  3. Minor tweaks to the user interface (as shown above)
  4. Support Windows 8 Preview
  5. New DMA playback mode, for improved high sampling rate playback (352.8kHz and 384kHz)
  6. Improved compatibility with a variety of playback software
  7. Reduction of system latency

(Update Oct 13 2011). Yet another update: MlCyMon_2.0.1.0_build20111013.exe in the  main driver folder. All of these releases are “out of the beta folder” but they are still called beta releases.

  • Better support for 64bit Windows, Windows 8 and AMD chipsets
  • Improved 352.8kHz and 384kHz playback in Monitor 03US
  • Utilization of undocumented 32-bit API for full 32 bit support across the entire Musiland Monitor series
  • New “DMA playback” mode for reduced latency, and better 32 bit support
  • “White” interface

You can download MlCyMon_2.0.1.0_build20111009.exe from main driver folder. You can find more information in the Musiland Tab.

The main visual difference is the HDCD indicator which lights up when it detects an HDCD encoded track.

In order to enable the HDCD feature (and indicator) , you must change the “hdcd” value from 0 to 1 in the Config.ini file found in C: \ Program Files \ MUSILAND \ Monitor Series (USB). After you change it, close (exit) the Musiland control panel and restart it. [The installer installs the config file with only read permission. You need to add the write permission to the config file in order to edit the value]

– Fixes a noise problem when playing 352.8KHz material through the Musiland built-in DAC/Headphone amp. There used to be a hissing sound when playing at that higher sample frequency. This was supposed to be fixed previously, but previous version would not install in my system due to “invalid license” problems.

– The default sample rate setting is persistent across reboots. The old driver would reset to 48 KHz after a system reboot

In addition:

  • Support for Windows 8
  • Support for Chinese language (yes, they released English menus first)
  • Digital volume level can be saved

  • At min or max setting, the volume will jump to max or min if you keep “turning it”
  • MMDI does not work
  • For Monitor Series 01 and 02: a second consecutive click on the sample rate generation mode will turn off the indicator like this:

Installed for the Monitor 01 USD (no Analog output)

Note: there have been two earlier releases (one day apart) that are no longer available. If you downloaded MlCyMon_2.0.0.0_build20111007 or MlCyMon_2.0.1.0_build20111008, they have some minor problems (not compatible with Monitor 01 and 02 series, not announcing to the OS as 32 bit drivers and not being able to save the default bit rate in the sound control panel)

another 2 new versions have followed Musilands 1013 drivers, at the moment of writing this the latest one is 1026. Have you had time to try them?

I just tried to use MlCyMon_2.1.0.0_build20111026.exe with a Monitor02 run in Windows XP Media 32bit and it made lot bad noise in wave,ASIO,Kernel streaming. So I went back to MlCyMon_2.0.0.0_build20110727.exe witch I’ve been using 8/2011 and have not had any problems at all.
MlCyMon_2.0.1.0_build20111013.exe can’t be found I get “link appears to be broken”

    Hi Robert,

I have heard of other people having issues with XP and Vista, I’m using W7 32bit and no probs whatsoever only great sound. If it is possible I’d recommend an upgrade.

    Hi all!
I guess I lost spdif output somehow after installed MlCyMon_2.1.0.0_build20111026.exe with Monitor02 in Vista. Tried back to all possible older versions incl. also in Windows XP – no chance to get the spdif back… Using Cambridge 840 for DAC – it tries to play then indicates input unlocked for spdif. Guess the new firmware plays the evil joke here. Any suggestions please?

I’ve found in the past that sometimes the spidif output is set to zero level in the windows control panel. Check that.

No, the spdif is always set on 100% volume in windows. The problem began only after the installation new driver. The sound from spdif comes somehow interrupted first then the cambridge dac unlocks the link. The analog outputs of Monitor02 are in order. Can’t understand why the roll back to older versions don’t fix this spdif issue…?

Just checked in musiland download folder and there’s new MlXCMon_2.1.0.0_build20111109.exe. Is it new monitor driver and why it’s called XC now?

You need to request for a “license code” through email.
      I found this in: http://bbs.musiland.com.cn/archiver/?tid-3601.html

1, unplug your Monitor 01 US/USD/02US/MINI from your computer.
      2, uninstall the old driver.
3, download and install the new driver:
4, reboot, plug Monitor 01 US/USD/02US/MINI in, if the control panel shows ‘Warning: License invalid’, it needs the firmware upgrade, otherwise you can skip the following steps and enjoy it now.
5, download the Monitor 01 US/USD/02US/MINI firmware upgrade program and extract it to a folder(‘MlCyMonAct’ from now on):
6, run ‘MlCyMonUser.exe’ in ‘MlCyMonAct’, it will create a file named ‘License.dat’.
7, send the ‘License.data’ to activate@musiland.com.cn as an attachment, also your product name and serial, double check your mail before sending, the three entry must present and match each other.
8, we will reply your mail in business time using activate@musiland.com.cn, it will include a ‘License.key’ file as an attachment, save it to the ‘MlCyMonAct’ folder.
9, run ‘MlCyMonProg.exe’ in ‘MlCyMonAct’, it will upgrade the firmware for you.
      10, reboot and have fun:)

I have a monitor 02. Using the latest driver, WinXP ASIO worked fine but no sound on Win 7 ASIO. Analog works fine. When playing music (ASIO) I see the sound bars move in The audio control panel and the ASIO volume is 100%. Same problem on 3 win7 PC’s. Any suggestions?

Are you trying to play analog or digital? You get two sound devices in the sound control panel, but only the speaker one works for both analog and digital.

Works for me both analog and digital…

I discovered the errors of my ways. When I reconfigured foobar the ASIO component was not installed. Thank you for your post. What queued me in was the “status” box showed the state of PASS not ASIO.
